KENOSHA, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (20-6) won the first set and led early in the second, but succumbed to the No. 4 Carthage Lady Reds (21-2) in four sets on Wednesday.
Junior
Ellie Adams (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 25 assists and 17 digs.
April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) led the Pointers with 13 kills and
Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) had a game-high 25 digs for UWSP.
Tara Emme (St. Nazianz, Wis./Valders) had consecutive kills followed by a block to spark a 5-0 run and an early 6-3 lead. Gehl had three kills in a 5-1 run to end the set as UWSP prevailed, 25-23.
Mazie Nagel (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) served up an ace in a 4-0 spurt that gave the Pointers an 11-8 advantage early in set two. Later, the Pointers led 20-16, but two Gehl kills were not enough as Carthage rattled off nine of the final 12 points to even the match with a 25-23 set two victory.
The momentum continued for the Lady Reds that saw a 7-0 start result in a 25-13 set three win. UWSP was unable to recover and Carthage turned a 16-5 lead into a 25-12 match-clinching set four win.
The Pointers return home for Senior Day and Alumni Day on Saturday (Oct. 19) with a 6:00 p.m. match against UW-Eau Claire. Fans who attend the UWSP Homecoming football game on Saturday can bring their ticket for free admission to UWSP final regular season home volleyball match.
