UWSP Volleyball Earns 20th Win, Completes Undefeated Week

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (20-5) took down Millikin (11-9) in straight sets and Gustavus Adolphus (10-12) by a 3-1 scores at the Dig Panici Classic on Saturday to finish the week undefeated and earn the 20th win of the year.
 
April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) continued her stellar season with 39 kills on the day, including a double-double against GAC.  Ellie Adams (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) racked up 74 assists over the two matches and also had a double-double versus GAC.
 
Hailey Jarr (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) and Maddie Lawson (West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale) each had seven blocks on the day as the Pointers totaled 14 over the two matches.
 
UWSP 3, Millikin 0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-20)
Gehl broke a 20-all tie in the first set with a kill and ended the first set win with another for UWSP.  The Pointers used a late 7-0 run with Gehl adding a pair of kills to take the second set.  Tara Emme (St. Nazianz, Wis./Valders) and Megan Lau (Potter, Wis./Hilbert) each had a duo of kills in a 6-1 spurt as the Pointers finished the sweep.
 
UWSP 3, GAC 1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19)
Three-straight kills by Gehl finished a 5-0 run the begin the match and UWSP never trailed en route to the set win.  The Gusties had an early 5-0 run in the second set and used a four-point spurt to gain the lead for good and even the match at 1-1.
 
Lau and Gehl had consecutive kills to spark a 7-1 run late as UWSP took the third set.  Gehl had a block and consecutive kills to break a 12-12 tie and UWSP pulled away to close out the match.
 
The Pointers travels to Carthage on Wednesday (Oct. 16) for a contest against the No. 4 Lady Reds.
