Second Quarter Slump Stunts Pointers in Home Defeat to UWL

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (7-13, 3-6) was held to just six points in the second quarter as visiting UW-La Crosse (17-3, 6-3) took home a 75-53 victory over the Pointers.
 
Sophomore Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) scored 12 points, the lone double-figure scorer for UWSP.  She grabbed six rebounds. Fellow sophomore Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) grabbed a team-high seven boards.
 
Freshman Jordyn Ellis (Winneconne, Wis./Winneconne) added a career-high seven points in eight minutes of action.
 
Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) gave the Pointers an early lead with a three-pointer just over two minutes into the game.  Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis. /Tri-County) followed with a triple of her own as UWSP forged ahead 6-5.  Brooke Geier (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) and Collins each scored a bucket as UWSP kept it close at 19-14 after one.
 
Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) scored with 2:45 left in the second quarter to snap a 14-0 run by the Eagles.  Geier scored again in the final minute, but the deficit was 38-20 at the half.
 
Baehman and Collins combined for the first 12 UWSP points in the third quarter, but UWSP trailed by 20 most of the period. 
 
Ellis got on the board to early in the fourth quarter with three-straight points.  Erin Nyhus (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) got on the board and Ellis hit a three-pointers later in the period, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
 
The Pointers travel to UW-River Falls on Saturday (Feb. 2). Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
