Baehman’s Double-Double Lifts Pointers Past Blue Devils

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Freshman Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis. /Tri-County) recorded her fifth double-double of the year as the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (6-12, 2-5) won its 11th-straight home game over UW-Stout (14-4, 4-3) on Wednesday, 77-69.

Baehman led all scorers with 20 points and her 15 rebounds also topped both squads.  She dished out three assists and had three blocks while going 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) tied her career high with 15 points and she was 2-for-2 from behind the arc.  Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) added 18 points and Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) was also in double digits with 11.

Cerrato scored on back-to-back possessions to open the game as UWSP went ahead, 4-2.  She scored again late in the period and Baehman hit both free throws in the final minute to give the Pointers a narrow 10-9 edge after one.

After the Blue Devils scored the opening basket of the second quarter, UWSP reeled off 10 straight capped by a three from Baehman for a 20-11 lead.  Stout responded with six of the next eight points, but another Baehman triple pushed the lead to 25-19.  Cerrrato hit a three and Collins scored four-straight as UWSP went into the half up, 34-22.

Back-to-back threes from Greenheck stopped a 9-2 run by the Blue Devils to put the lead back in double figures at 42-31.  Cerrato nailed consecutive threes later in the quarter to regain an 11-point lead at 49-38.  UWSP ended the period on a 9-4 run to take a 58-42 lead into the fourth.

The Blue Devils started the fourth with six-straight points in an attempt to rally.  Baehman and Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) responded with buckets on consecutive possessions, but a five-minute drought from the floor allowed UW-Stout to pull within four at 64-60.  Schmidt scored on back-to-back possessions as the lead grew to 70-62 with a minute left.  The Pointers hit 7-of-8 in the final minute to thwart the comeback bid by the Blue Devils.

UWSP travels to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday to begin the second half of league play.  Tip-off at Zorn Arena is set for 5:00 p.m.
