UWSP Track and Field Teams Both Take Second in Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point track and field teams both finished second at the WIAC Triangular hosted by UW-Eau Claire.   The Pointers men scored 127 points and the women had 107. 
 
Results
 
For the men, Calden Wojt (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) claimed the 400-meter dash crown with a time of 51.07.  Teammates Sam Welch (Manawa, Wis./Manawa) and Matt Cieslak (Wilmot, Wis./Wilmot) went two-three with times of 51.25 and 51.61, respectively. 
 
The 4x400-meter relay quartet of Dustin Knoeck (Marathon, Wis./Marathon), Nick Lawson (Madison, Wis./West), Matthew Miller (Hillsboro, Wis./Kickapoo) and Sam Welch (Manawa, Wis./Manawa) won the event with a time of 3:31.20.
 
Tom Kohn (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) leaped to the triple jump crown with a distance of 14.30 meters (46' 11").  Kohn also earned a fifth-place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.76.    
 
Caleb Rheinschmidt (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) won the weight throw with a throw of 16.67 meters (54' 8.25").  Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca), Logan Garski (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) and Isaiah Yaroch went three-four-five throwing distances of 16.26 (53' 4.25"), 15.35 (50' 4.50") and 15.31 meters (50' 2.75'). 
 
Distance runner Robert Lutz (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) made an impressive showing in the 3,000-meter run.  He earned the runner-up position with a time of 8:57.62. His time was 10.09 seconds faster than the third-place finisher. 
 
Lee Jepsen (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) finished second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.64. 
 
At the jumps pit, multi athlete Nick Chesterman (Sun Prairie, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) earned a runner-up position in the long jump.  He leaped a distance of 6.21 meters (20' 4.50")
 
In the high jump, Jeremy Lee (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) tabbed a third-place finish with a height of 1.86 meters (6' 1.25").  Teammate and fellow heptathlon athlete Matthew Miller (Hillsboro, Wis./Kickapoo) cleared the bar at a height of 1.76 meters (5' 9.25"), good for a sixth-place finish. 
 
Alex Egbert (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) earned a third-place finish in the one-mile run with a time of 4:14.36.  Teammate Matt Stelmasek (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) followed up two places later in fifth, finishing with a time of 4:18.22. 
 
Sophomore hurdler Jared Schrang (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) earned a time of 8.01 in the 55-meter hurdles, good for a third-place finish. 
 
Alex Jochman (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) and Colin Beattie (Green Oaks, Ill./Libertyville) went four-five in the pole vault.  The pair clear the bar at 4.16 (13' 7.75) and 3.86 (12' 8") meters, respectively. 
 
Sam Krebsbach (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) and Trey Hess (Wausau, Wis./East) went eight-nine in the 800-meter run. The cross country members earned times of 2:08.82 and 2:08.88, respectively. 
 
For the women, Adrienne Lewis (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.36, 0.17 seconds faster than the runner-up finisher.  Senior teammate Hannah Mertens (West Bend, Wis./Hartford Union) finished in sixth with a time of 7.53.  Lewis also won the long jump with a leap of 5.44 meters (17' 10.25").   
 
Katie Schaefer (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard) made an impressive showing in the 3,000-meter run as a freshman.  She nabbed the 3,000 crown with a time of 11:20.15.  Fellow freshman Paige Allemann (Waumandee,Wis./Cochrane-Fountain City) finished in sixth with a time of 11:48.10.      
 
Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis./Big Foot) won the 800-meter run in a convincing fashion.  The Williams Bay, Wis. native finished with a time of 2:20.09.  Teammate Michelle Petkovsek (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) followed Wellhausen earning the runner-up position with a time of 2:21.42. 
 
Petkovsek and Wellhausen ran the last two legs, respectively, of the 4x400-meter relay with Rebecca Alter (Trevor, Wis./Wilmot) and Elle Maculan (Rockford, Ill./Auburn) helping to claim the title.  The quartet earned a time of 4:12.04. 
 
Karen Wethal (Evansville, Wis./Evansville) and Larkin Hoepner (Eau Claire, Wis./North) represented the women throwers well.  The pair went two-three in the weight throw with distances of 15.45 (50' 8.25") and 14.91 (48' 11") meters, respectively.  Wethal and Hoepner also earned a runner-up and a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 13.18 meters (43' 3") and 12.03 meters (39' 5.75"), respectively.       
 
Georgia Harrison (West Bend, Wis./East) finished among the top-10 with a fourth-place finish in the one-mile run.  She finished with a time of 5:13.27.  Teammate Taylor Campbell (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) crossed the finish line with a time of 5:40.53, good for a 16th-place finish. 
 
Claire Neuberger (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and Maya Veenstra (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) went five-six in the pole vault.  The pair cleared the bar at a height of 3.07 meters (10' .75"), but it ultimately came down to other vaults as the tie breaker. 
 
Caitlin Falk (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) and Rebecca Alter (Trevor, Wis./Wilmot) went eight-nine in the 200-meter dash.  The sophomore-junior pair clocked in times of 27.51 and 27.81. 
 
Up next, the Pointers head south to Whitewater, Wis. for a series of meets hosted by UW-Whitewater.  On Friday, the Whitewater Multi's begins at 1:00 p.m. and the Men's "Squig" Converse Invite begins at 5:00 p.m.  On Saturday, the Women's Whitewater Invite commences at 12:00 p.m.
