AURORA, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-7-2) saw its four-game unbeaten streak to begin 2019 snapped as host Aurora (4-8-3) earned a split in the weekend set, 3-1.
The host Spartans got on the board in the first period, scoring with just 37 seconds left on the clock.
At the 8:21 of the second period, Aurora pushed the deficit to 2-0 as Nicole McKernan scored her fourth goal of the weekend.
Senior
Lauren Smith (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) got UWSP on the board late in the third period. It was her team-best 11th point of the season. Fellow seniors
Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, Minn./Waconia) and
Allison Karrmann (Cannon Falls, Minn./Emerson Prep) had assists on the play.
Aurora added a third goal, an empty-netter, in the final minute of play to complete the scoring.
Senior
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) made 11 saves in the game. UWSP out-shot the Spartans, 44-14, in the game.
The Pointers return home on Tuesday (Jan. 15) for the final home non-conference game of the season against St. Norbert. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
