STEVENS POINT, Wis.-The USTFCCCA top-20 ranked UW-Stevens Point track and field teams kicked off the 2019 indoor campaign holding the annual Pointer Alumni Meet on Saturday. The Pointers hosted athletes from Lawrence University and St. Norbert College, but no team scores were recorded.
Results
NCAA Outdoor All-American
Karen Wethal (Evansville, Wis./Evansville) earned a pair of wins in the shot put and weight throw. In the shot put, she threw a distance of 13.28 meters. In the weight throw, she tossed a distance of 15.37 meters.
Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.26. Momont later teamed up with
Kasy Walker-Daniels (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie),
Briana Simonis (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) and
Mariah Nelson (Poplar, Wis./Northwestern) winning the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:29.80. Momont also added a win to her day in the long jump, leaping a distance of 5.23 meters.
Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis./Big Foot),
Caitlin Falk (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) and
Michelle Petkovsek (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) dominated the top-3 spots of the 600-meter run. The trio finished with time of 1:38.78, 1:41.01 and 1:41.31.
NCAA Championship participant
Adrienne Lewis (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) won the 60-meter dash. She locked in a time of 7.90, four seconds faster than the runner-up. She also earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.21 meters.
Hannah Mertens (West Bend, Wis./Hartford Union) won the 200-meter dash, sprinting to a time of 26.74.
Jenny Lindquist (Glenwood City, Wis./Glenwood City) earned the runner-up position in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.50.
Simonis finished second in the high jump clearing the bar at a height of 1.57 meters. Teammate
Makenzie Ward (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) tied for 3rd with a height of 1.52 meters.
Freshman
Shannon Nelson (Franklin, Wis./Oak Creek) made her collegiate debut in the 300-meter dash. She sprinted a time of 43.85, good for a third-place finish.
Claire Neuberger (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) made her first collegiate track and field appearance in the pole vault. She earned a third-place finish, clearing the bar at a height of 3.10 meters.
Katie Schaefer (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard),
Paige Allemann (Waumandee,Wis./Cochrane-Fountain City) and
Alexis Anderson (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) went 3-4-5 in the one-mile run. The distance runners earned times of 5:45.08, 5:50.34 and 5:50.36.
Georgia Harrison (West Bend, Wis./East) finished in third place in the 3,000-meter run. She finished in a time of 11:04.93.
Pointers cross country runner
Taylor Fuerstenberg (Sussex,Wis./Hamilton) began her 1st season in the 400-meter dash. She finished with a time of 1:07.31 and it was good for a fourth-place finish.
On the men's side,
Isaiah Schilling (Spencer, Wis./Spencer),
Joe Martinsen (Waterford, Wis./Union Grove),
Andrew Haffelder (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) and
Dustin Knoeck (Marathon, Wis./Marathon) won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:42.38.
Hurdler
Jared Schrang (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.47.
Throwers
Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) and
Caleb Rheinschmidt (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) won the shot put and weight throw, respectively. Orr threw a distance of 14.33 meters, while Rheinschmidt threw a distance of 16.86 meters.
Vincent Jolliffe (Wausau, Wis./East) and
Anthony Klein (Trevor, Wis./Wilmot) went one-two in the 200-meter dash. The pair finished with times of 23.73 and 23.93.
NCAA Indoor All-American
Evan Torgerson (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) won the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:23.90.
Travis Wollenberg (Cecil, Wis./Bonduel) earned a second-place finish with a time of 1:24.37.
Robert Lutz (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) and
Tyler Tanko (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) went one-two in the one-mile run with times of 4:27.39 and 4:28.02, respectively.
Lee Jepsen (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) placed second in the 60-meter dash. He finished with a time of 7.22.
Alex Egbert (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) and
Matt Stelmasek (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) finished in second and third place in the 3,000-meter run. The distance athletes finished with times of 8:49.52 and 8:53.06.
Martinsen earned a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.06.
Senior multi's athlete
Jeremy Lee (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) finished in third place in the pole vault clearing the bar at a height of 4.35 meters.
The Pointers head west to UW-Eau Claire for the WIAC Tri on Saturday (Jan. 19) against UW-Eau Claire and UW-Platteville. The first event is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
