STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 25 UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (7-1-1) got a pair of goals from sophomore
Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) in a 2-1 win over visiting Carroll (2-5-3) on Wednesday in non-conference action.
Hess opened the scoring in the 15th minute after corralling a rebound on her initial shot that ricocheted off freshman
Bridget Kauzlaric (Coal City, Ill./Coal City). Kauzlaric met the ball at the goalkeeper and deflected it back to Hess, who buried the shot from the top of the box.
In the 64th minute, Hess again found the back of the net, this time from close range.
Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) won the ball at the end line inside the box and sent a tremendous cross to Hess for a wide-open tap in at the goal line.
The Pioneers got one back in the 81st minute off a free kick. A scramble in the box fell to the feet of a CU player who scored with a shot to the back post.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Lexi Pawlowski (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) made one of her four saves in the closing seconds to seal the win.
Hess led all players with four shots in the match.
Olivia Bohnert (Oshkosh, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and
Kortnee Hass (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) each added two.
The Pointers open conference play on Saturday (Sept. 29) with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff against UW-Stout.
