Hardyman Nets a Hat Trick in Big Win by UWSP Soccer

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Junior Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) scored three goals and sophomore Francesca Hamilton (Milwaukee, Wis./St. Thomas More) had two goals and three assists as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (2-0-0) rolled past visiting Lawrence (0-1-0) in the home opener, 9-0.
 
Hardyman added her three goals to her team-leading nine points in the first two matches of the season.  The Pointers also got goals from Kassidy Spees (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa), Hamilton, Olivia Bohnert (Oshkosh, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and Esme Reinders (Eau Claire, Wis./Regis).
 
The scoring opened with Hardyman tallying her first of the match in the sixth minute.  In the 27th minute, Spees netted her first of the year for a 2-0 lead.
 
Hamilton added to the lead in the 33rd minute.  Two minutes later, freshmen Reinders and Brooke Scheuble (Northfield, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's) recorded their first career goal and assist, respectively.  Hamilton scored again in the 39th minute to put UWSP ahead 5-0 at the half.
 
Bohnert got the Pointers on the board in the second half with a 64th-minute goal, the first of three straight goals with Hamilton assisting.
 
In the 71st minute, Hardyman scored her second of the match and finished the hat trick in the 73rd minute.  Reinders completed the scoring with her second of the match in the 75th minute.  Fellow freshman Sophia Reddan (Madison, Wis./West) earned her first career point with an assist on the goal.
 
Goalkeepers Olivia Mecham (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) and Lexi Pawlowski (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) combined for the shutout.  UWSP's defense did not allow a shot in the match.
 
The Pointers travel to Ripon on Wednesday (Sept. 5) for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
