Early Offense Propels Women’s Soccer to Victory in Season Opener

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (1-0-0) scored twice in the opening 15 minutes and held on for a 2-1 road win at St. Olaf (0-1-0) to open the season on Friday.

Junior Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) made an immediate impact upon returning from her season-ending injury last October.  She assisted on the first goal and scored the eventual game-winner in the 14th minute.

Freshman Jacqueline Aleman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) tallied the season's first goal in the 12th minute, her first career goal, to put UWSP up 1-0.  Two minutes later, Hardyman doubled the lead.

Sophomore Gracie Wendels (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Assumption) got on the scoresheet with an assist on Hardyman's game-winner.

In the 22nd minute, the Oles pulled one back as a high arcing shot ricocheted in off the cross bar.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lexi Pawlowski (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) recorded her first career win with 13 saves in the match.

Aleman, Hardyman and Kassidy Spees (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) each had two shots on net to lead UWSP.

The Pointers open the home slate on Saturday against Lawrence. Kickoff at Point Soccer Bowl is slated for 1:00 p.m.
