The UW-Stevens Point track and field teams opened up the 2018 outdoor campaign sending athletes to the Wheaton Invitational and UWSP throwers to the Benedictine Invitational. At the Wheaton Invitational, the women won with a total event score of 161.5 out a 10-team field, while the men finished second out of 10-team field with a score of 129.5.
Calden Wojt (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) broke his own school record set back in 2017 in the 200-meter dash, and currently has the fastest time in the country.

For the women,
Hannah Mertens (West Bend, Wis./Hartford Union) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.99. She also earned a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.80.
Leah Trempe (Combined Locks, Wis./Kimberly) crossed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.97.
Bailey Wolf (Oconto Falls, Wis./Oconto Falls),
Kara Hoier (New London, Wis./New London),
Georgia Harrison (West Bend, Wis./East) and Erinn Olmsted dominated the top four spots of the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The quartet finished with times of 11:25.71, 11:52.95, 12:08.11 and 12:34.23.
Angela Breunig (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) finished first in the pole vault when she cleared the bar at a height of 3.53 meters (11' 7").
Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis./Big Foot) and
Michelle Petkovsek (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) went one-two in the 800-meter dash with times of 2:18.85 and 2:20.05.
Briana Simonis (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) tabbed a first-place finish in the high jump. The sophomore jumper cleared the bar at a height of 1.62 meters (5' 3.75").
Alexandria Schaub (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) and
Anna Hogan (Omro, Wis./Omro) went one-two in the triple jump with leaps of 10.50 meters (34' 5.50") and 10.32 meters (33' 10.25").
Alex Grubbs (Minong, Wis./Spooner) notched a second-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 36.80 meters (120' 9").
Lydia Ulrich (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.20 meters (17' 0.75").
On the men's side, Wojt won the 200-meter dash with a school-record time of 21.17. He also competed in the 100-meter dash, earning a second-place finish with a time of 10.81.
Evan Torgerson (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) earned a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.24.
Tom Kohn (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) hurdled his way to a first-place finish in the 110-meters hurdles with a time of 15.51. He also won the long jump with a distance of 6.66 meters (21' 10.25").
Nico Labracke (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) and
Travis Wollenberg (Cecil, Wis./Bonduel) finished one-two in the 800-meter dash. The duo ran times of 1:57.84 and 1:58.73.
Kyle Nowak (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) tabbed a first-place finish in the discus throw. The senior thrower propelled the discus to a distance of 44.24 meters (145' 2"). Teammate
Alex Poncelet (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) followed in fourth place with a distance of 37.88 meters (124' 3").
The quartet of
Jeremy Lee (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua),
Matthew Miller (Hillsboro, Wis./Kickapoo),
Nick Chesterman (Sun Prairie, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and
Quinn Brownell (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) competed together for a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:33.09.
Michael Logalbo (Monico, Wis./Crandon) and Lee finished third and fourth, respectively, in the javelin throw with distances of 46.50 meters (152' 7") and 45.70 meters (149' 11").
Benedictine Invitational (Results)
Meanwhile at the Benedictine Invitational,
Brent Reierson (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) earned a pair of first-place finishes in the discus throw and shot put. The senior threw distances of 48.94 meters (160' 7") and 15.03 meters (49' 3.75"). He also picked up a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.39 meters (165' 4") and a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 42.48 meters (139' 4").

Dylan Delaney (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) and
Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) also followed Reierson with a second- and third-place finish in the shot put with distances of 14.19 meters (46' 6.75") and 14.13 meters (46' 4.25").
Tylar Kohnke (North Fond du Lac, Wis./Horace Mann) placed third in the javelin throw with a distance of 49.93 meters (163' 10").
Karen Wethal (Evansville, Wis./Evansville) earned a second-place finish in the discus throw with a distance of 42.62 meters (139' 10"). Teammate
Larkin Hoepner (Eau Claire, Wis./North) finished in 12th place with a distance of 38.51 meters (126' 4").
