MADISON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team (11-18, 0-6) suffered a pair of setbacks to UW-Oshkosh (15-6, 2-0) on Saturday in Madison by 7-2 and 8-2 scores.
Ashley Cohen (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard South) continued to be the Pointers' hottest bat with a pair of hits in each game. She drove in two of UWSP's four runs on the day.
Lauren Luedtke (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) had three hits on the day and scored a run in game two.
Paige Allen (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and
Alyssa Cooper (Little Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) each collected two hits on the day.
Game 1 – UWSP 2, UW-Oshkosh 7
UWO broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning. A pair of extra-base hits contributed to the two-run rally.
The Titans increased their lead in the third with three runs on four hits for a 5-0 advantage and upped the lead to 7-0 with a pair of runs in the fifth.
Averi Kanyuh (Rapid River, Wis./Rapid River) led off the sixth with an infield single. Allen followed with a single to put runners on the corners. A groundout by
Payton Mix (New London, Wis./New London) got UWSP on the board. Cohen followed with an RBI single, but the Pointers could not cut any further into the deficit.
Game 2 – UWSP 2, UW-Oshkosh 8
Luedtke began the second inning with an infield single. Mix moved her to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Maddie Durie (Appleton, Wis./East) singled and Cooper drew a walk to load the bases.
Rachael Wakefield (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) singled to plate the first run. Cohen followed with a single to give UWSP a 2-0 lead.
The lead was short-lived as the Titans scored five run in the bottom of the inning on four hits and a walk.
The Titans added a pair of runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to complete the scoring
The Pointers face UW-Eau Claire on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Madison College to conclude the weekend.
