UWSP Baseball Wins with 13 Runs Against Grinnell

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team advanced to 4-3 on the season with 13-10 win over Grinnell today. The Pointers sealed the game with six runs scored in the sixth inning.
 
The Pointers posted 14 hits from seven different batters in the game. Freshman Bradley Hansen (Racine, Wis. /Union Grove) stood out, going 3-4 with three runs, three RBIs and a double to assist UWSP.

Tommy Duddleston (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle Institute) and Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis. /West) both recorded two hits and three RBI. Ryan Stanicek (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Catholic), Lucas Luedtke (River Falls, Wis./River Falls ), and Aaron Simmons (Franklin, Wis. /Franklin) also posted two hits and Christian Zamudio (Kenosha, Wis. /Tremper) had one.

After a three up, three down top of the first, the Pointers got on the board in the bottom of the first. Stanicek started off with a single down the right field line and stole second putting a base runner in scoring position. Luedtke singled to right center bringing Stanicek in to score to put the Pointers on the board.

In the top of the second, Grinnell responded with three runs putting them up 3-1. The Poineers ended the inning after four hits and leaving two on base.

The Pointers matched the Pioneers' inning with three runs themselves. Simmons opened the bottom of the second with a double. Zamudio's single followed advancing the runner to third. Hansen drew a walk and Duddleston added to the damage with a single to bring in a run to make it a 3-2 game. Nelson hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Zamudio came home to tie the game up, 3-3. Kyle Mrozinski (Ashwaubenon, Wis./Ashwaubenon) put UWSP ahead with a sacrifice fly to left field

Grinnell responded with three in the top of the third, to make it a 6-4 game.

Simmons opened up the bottom of the third with a single and advanced to second on a pass ball. Zamudio moved Simmons to third with a ground out. Hansen added his first double of the season to plate Simmons. Duddleston brought home Hansen home with a ground out to tie the game, 6-6.
 
After the Pioneers regained the lead with two in the fifth, UWSP got one back in the bottom of the inning. Zamudio reached on an error and advanced to second on the throw. Following a Hansen single, Nelson doubled to right-center to close the deficit to one at 8-7.

The Pioneers continued to put up runs with two in the sixth for a 10-7 lead.

Mrozinski was hit by a pitch to begin the bottom of the sixth and moved to second on a passed ball.  After a fielder's choice and a walk loaded the bases, Hansen drove in two with a single to right.  Duddleston continued the rally with an RBI single.  Nelson doubled to plate another and Stanicek drove in a pair with a double to put UWSP ahead 13-10.

The Pointers will face the Keuka College Wolves on Tuesday with first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m. ET.
