AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (5-3) posted 20 runs for the first time since April 2015 in a 20-0 seven inning win over Keuka (5-7) on Tuesday in Florida.
Junior
Kyle Mrozinski (Ashwaubenon, Wis./Ashwaubenon) went 4-for-4 and was a triple shy of the cycle. He drove in five, including his first home run of the season. Mrozinski scored four runs in the win.
Freshman
Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis. /West) had three hits with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Tommy Duddleston (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle Institute) went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Ryan Stanicek (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Catholic) scored three times on two hits and he drove in two. Luedtke also had a pair of hits with three runs batted in.
Christian Zamudio (Kenosha, Wis. /Tremper) had a pair of hits with three runs scored and two RBI.
Starting pitcher
Ben Miller (Union Grove, Wis./Union Grove) tossed all seven innings. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. He scattered seven hits.
The Pointers broke out on top early with a pair of runs in the first. Stanicek drilled a one-out triple and scored on Mrozinski's single to left. Two batters later,
Jordan Carlson (Madison, Wis./Madison La Follette) tripled to right to plate Mrozinski for a 2-0 lead.
UWSP built on its lead in the second. Zamudio drew a one out walk. A single by
Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis. /West) and a base on balls by Stanicek loaded the bases. Mrozinski singled to drive in two and Luedtke drove in another with a base hit. With runners on the corners, a balk plated another and Will Iloncaie capped the inning with a double to make it 8-0.
Zamudio drew a leadoff walk in the third. Consecutive singles by Nelson and Stanicek plated the first run of the frame. Mrozinski belted a ground-rule double to center to score another. Luedtke followed with a single up the middle to drive in two for a 12-0 advantage.
Mrozinski blasted the first pitch of the fifth inning over the left field wall to continue the onslaught.
Ben Faga (La Crosse, Wis./Central) followed with a single and
Neal Matson (Neillsville, Wis./Neillsville) roped a double to left-center. Iloncaie drew a walk to load the bases and
Bradley Hansen (Racine, Wis. /Union Grove) drew a base on balls to push home another run. Zamudio doubled to drive in two and Duddleston singled to plate another. Payton Neslon hit a two-run double to push the lead to 19-0.
Gabe Affeldt drew a leadoff walk in the seventh.
Brett Nelson (Balsam Lake, Wis./Unity) followed with a single. After a Keuka error loaded the bases, Faga was hit by a pitch to force home the 20th run of the game.
UWSP returns to action on Wednesday (March 28) with a 10:00 a.m. ET doubleheader against St. Thomas.
