Baseball Stumbles Versus Union, Completes Win Over St. Olaf.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (3-3) suffered an 11-4 loss to Union (3-0) to open play on Saturday before finishing off a 9-7 win over St. Olaf (0-2) to complete the March 10/11 suspended game.
 
Junior Kyle Mrozinski (Ashwaubenon, Wis./Ashwaubenon) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.   Ryan Stanicek (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Catholic) also had two hits and he scored a run.  Freshman Bradley Hansen (Racine, Wis. /Union Grove) drove in two runs.
 
Union turned a pair of walks into a two-run lead with a one-out double in the second inning.  Two batters later, a sac fly put the Pointers' deficit at 3-0.
 
In the third, the Dutchmen turned a leadoff walk into a run with an RBI double and a 4-0 lead.  Union increased the lead to 5-0 in the sixth.
 
UWSP broke through in the eighth with Tommy Duddleston (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle Institute) sparking a rally with a leadoff single.  Two batters later, Stanicek singled and Mrozinski doubled to drive in both runners.
 
In the bottom of the eighth, Union plated six runs on four hits and a pair of UWSP errors.
 
The Pointers had a chance to rally in the ninth.  Will Iloncaie began the frame with a walk.  Aaron Simmons (Franklin, Wis. /Franklin) followed with a base on balls and both runners moved up on a wild pitch.  Bradley Hansen (Racine, Wis. /Union Grove) hit a two-run single and moved to second on a wild pitch.  The Dutchmen ended the game with a double play.
 
St. Olaf Recap from 3-10-18
UWSP took a three-run lead into the bottom of the seventh of a suspended game versus the Oles.  St. Olaf loaded the bases today and the Pointers allowed just one run to hold on for a 9-7 win.
 
The Pointers return to action on Sunday afternoon with a 2:30 p.m. ET first pitch against Grinnell.
