Pointers Lose Two in Florida on Friday

CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team (6-6) came up short in both games on Friday in Florida.  In game one, UWSP fell, 9-2, to Bowdoin (12-3) and lost to Carroll (9-7) by a 4-0 score.

Freshman Tatum Tackmier (Ashwaubenon, WIs./Ashwaubenon) collected four hits on the day, with two base knocks in each game.  Fellow freshman Lauren Luedtke (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) went 3-for-3 against the Polar Bears.  Payton Mix (New London, Wis./New London) had a 2-for-2 game against Bowdoin.

Game 1 – UWSP 2, Bowdoin 9
Paige Allen (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) began the bottom of the first with a double.  After a Mix sacrifice bunt, Morgan Johnson (Combined Locks, Wis./Kaukauna) drove in Allen with a sac fly to put UWSP up, 1-0.

Tackmier led off the third with a double and moved to third on a fly out to right field.  Mix dropped a successful squeeze to plate the second run of the game for the Pointers.

The lead remained until the fifth.  The Polar Bears scored seven times on four hits, a pair of hit batters and an error.  In the sixth, Bowdoin added two more runs on two hits and a UWSP error.

Game 2 – UWSP 0, Carroll 4
Tackmier led the game off with a single, but was left stranded. She singled again in the third, but the Pointers were otherwise held off the bases.

Carroll got two runs on a hit and an error in the first. They added two more runs in the third off three hits and an error.

The Pointers were unable to get anything going offensively and fell to the Pioneers, 4-0.

UWSP returns to action on Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. ET game against St. Thomas and a 2:00 p.m. ET matchup with Colby.
