MENOMONIE, Wis. –Junior forward Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, OK/) scored a third period goal to lift the No. 2/3 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey to 2-1 victory over UW-Stout on Friday night at the Dunn County Ice Arena. With the victory, the Pointers have captured the WIAC regular season championship and have secured home ice throughout the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's).
At the 13:30 mark of the third period, Karty tallied his team-leading 18th goal of the season to lift UW-Stevens Point (18-4-2, 6-0-1 WIAC) to a 2-1 victory over UW-Stout (6-15-2, 3-4-0 WIAC). Willem Nong-Lambert (Des Moines, Iowa/) and Colin Raver (Bartlett, IL/) picked up assists on the play.
Following a scoreless first period, Logan Fredericks (Millstone Township, NJ/) got the Pointers on the board at the 15:09 mark of the second period, assisted by Wesley Ashley (Pittsburgh, PA/) and Stephan Beauvais (Shelby Township, MI/).
Less than three minutes later, Hunter Anderson scored for UW-Stout to even the game entering the final period.
Senior goaltender Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI/) recorded 22 saves in goal for the Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point will host the winner of the first round series in the semifinal round of the WIAC Tournament on Feb. 23 and 24.
