STEVENS POINT, Wis.-The No. 2/3 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie with visiting UW-Eau Claire in the regular season finale at K.B. Willett Arena on Saturday evening. The Pointers (18-4-3, 6-0-2 WIAC) closed the regular season as the WIAC Champions, going undefeated in conference play.
Junior forward
Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, OK/) got the Pointers on the board on the team's first shot of the game to give UWSP a 1-0 lead over No. 14 UW-Eau Claire (15-9-1, 4-2-1 WIAC) at the 2:23 mark of the opening period.
Mac Jensen scored a power-play goal for UW-Eau Claire to level the game at 1-1 midway through the opening period, before Colton Wolter scored to put UWEC up 2-1 at the end of the opening frame.
In the second period,
Brennen Miller (Keller, TX/) responded for the Pointers netting a power-play goal at the 9:48 mark, evening the game at 2-2.
With just two seconds remaining in the period, Miller struck again to take back the lead for UWSP.
In the opening minutes of the third, Adam Parsells evened the score at 3-3.
Senior captain
Willem Nong-Lambert (Des Moines, Iowa/) took back the lead for the Pointers at 8:01 of the final period, before Jake Bresser knotted the game for the final time for UWEC three minutes later.
Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI/) recorded 33 saves in goal for UWSP.
The Pointers will return to action on Friday Feb. 23, hosting the winner of the first round of the WIAC Commissioner's Cup Tournament (presented by Culver's).
