Roland Seals Win to Back Cerrato’s Career-High

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Senior Mickey Roland (New London, Wis./New London) scored a go-ahead bucket with two seconds remaining as the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (10-11, 4-6) won, 72-70, at UW-River Falls on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) scored a career-high 23 points in the win.  She grabbed five rebounds and made four three-pointers.

Mickey Roland (New London, Wis./New London) had a double-double for UWSP with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Fellow senior Taylor Barrett (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) poured in 14 and freshman Brooke Geier (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) chipped in 10 points.  Barrett had eight rebounds with three assists and a pair of blocked shots.

Barrett began the game with UWSP's first four points.  Following a Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) three-pointer, UWSP had a slim 9-7 lead, but the Falcons finished the quarter on a 15-2 run.

Four early points in the second quarter were not enough to keep UWRF from building a game-high 17-point lead.  Geier, Barrett and Cerrato scored on consecutive trips to cut the lead to 11.  In the final minute, Cerrato hit a three and Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) scored to bring the deficit to nine at 35-26 at the half.

Midway through the third quarter, Barrett cut the lead to just three as UWSP converted 8-of-10 free throws to chip away.  Cerrato hit a pair of triple and scored eight-straight points as UWSP trailed 53-50 heading to the fourth.

Ashley Leiterman (Morrison, Wis./Denmark) and Lexi Roland (New London, Wis./New London) scored on back-to-back offensive trips to give the Pointers a lead at 54-53 in the opening minute of the fourth.  Cerrato converted an and-1 and Barrett pushed the lead to four.  Mickey Roland (New London, Wis./New London), Cerrato and Lexi Roland (New London, Wis./New London) each hit from behind the arc to up the advantage to 10 with 5:22 to go.  After a Geier bucket at 4:02, the Pointers went cold until Mickey Roland (New London, Wis./New London) scored with two seconds left to secure the win.

The Pointers return home to face UW-Platteville on Wednesday (Feb. 7) at 7:00 p.m. at Berg Gym.
