Pointers Gets Goals from Five Different Scorers in Road Win

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Five different Pointers scored as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (12-9-3, 2-5-2) won its final regular season conference game by a 5-2 score at UW-Superior (14-8-2, 3-4-2) on Saturday afternoon.
 
Freshman Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, WI/Madison Capitols) got the scoring started giving UWSP a lead 11:48 into the opening period.  Alex Grubbs (Minong, WI/Spooner) and Maddie Schlossmacher (Roseville, MN/Roseville) assisted on the goal.
 
The Yellowjackets responded with a goal just 19 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1.  Less than a minute later, UWS took a 2-1 lead that stood for the remainder of the period.
 
Early in the second period, senior Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) netted a power-play goal to tie the game at 2-2.  Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Madison Capitols) added her team-best 12th assist on the goal.
 
Lemirande put the Pointers ahead at the 8:44 mark of the second period on an assist from Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, MN/Waconia).
 
A little over a minute into the third period, Schlossmacher made it 4-2 in favor of UWSP with senior Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake) adding a helper.
 
Senior Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) wrapped up the scoring with her ninth of the season at the 7:28 mark with Lauren Smith (Antigo, WI/Antigo) garnering an assist.
 
Marit Larson (Oakdale, MN/North St. Paul) and Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) combined for 28 saves for the Pointers.
 
UWSP will face Concordia (Wis.) on home ice Tuesday (Feb. 13) at 7:00 p.m. in the final regular season game.
