STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (13-9-3) closed out the regular season on Tuesday night with a 3-1 home victory of Concordia (Wis.) (10-12-1).
Senior
Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake) got the Pointers on the board eight minutes into the game. Her third of the season came on assists from
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) and
McKenna Butcher (Sun Prairie, WI/Madison Capitols).
Biagini doubled the UWSP lead after burying her own rebound at the 12:44 mark of the first. It was her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
In the second period, the Falcons scored to make it a one-goal game heading to the third period.
Late in the third period, the Pointers got a five-minute power play and took advantage with
Alex Grubbs (Minong, WI/Spooner) scoring with the man-advantage to give the Pointers a 3-1 lead. The goal was her fifth of the year.
CUW could not score with the extra attacker after pulling its goalie with 1:29 remaining.
Senior
Lisa Fowle (Wausau, WI/Wausau West) earned the win with a 12-save night. She improves to 4-1-0 on the season.
UWSP will travel to UW-River Falls on Feb. 23 and 24 for the WIAC O'Brien Cup semifinals.
