STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Juniors
Canon O'Heron (Bangor, Wis./Bangor) and
Nate Dodge (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) poured in a combined 37 points as the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (16-7, 10-2) completed the season sweep of UW-Stout (8-15, 2-10) with an 80-63 win on Saturday afternoon.
O'Heron scored a team-high 19 points with six rebounds. Dodge went 6-for-9 from the field, all from three-point range, and added 18 points. Senior
MJ Delmore (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) was also in double figures with 15 points, including three three-pointers.
Brett Tauber (Madison, Wis./Memorial) narrowly missed double digits with nine points. He had four assists.
Tauber scored consecutive buckets to pull UWSP within one after UW-Stout built a 5-0 lead. Dodge drained consecutive threes to put the Pointers ahead 10-7. Delmore scored five-straight points as the Pointers gained a 19-15 advantage.
O'Heron scored six-consecutive UWSP points to maintain a small lead through the middle of the first half.
Mark Nelson (Madison, Wis./Monona Grove) and Dodge hit back-to-back threes and
Garrett Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) pushed the lead to double figures. O'Heron finished the half with a bucket to give UWSP a 39-29 lead.
Delmore began the second half with a three as the Pointers remained ahead by double digits.
Brandon Spray (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) hit a three and Dodge drained a long-range shot at the midpoint of the half as the advantage grew to 15.
Two minutes later, Dodge drained consecutive triples.
Matt Koerner (West Bend, Wis./West) and Delmore added to the long-range barrage as UWSP moved ahead by 20 with just over five minutes remaining.
Drew Fredrickson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) hit a three down the stretch and
Brady Wagner (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) scored his first collegiate points to close out the win.
UWSP host UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (Feb. 14) at 7:00 p.m. for Senior Night at Quandt Fieldhouse.
