WINONA, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (5-6-1) closed out 2018 with a 3-0 loss at Saint Mary's (4-6-1) on Saturday. The defeat is the first on the road this season for the Pointers.
Senior goaltender
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) made 35 saves for the Pointers, including 16 in the first period to keep UWSP within striking distance.
The Cardinals broke through on the power play at the 8:42 mark of the first period. Late in the second period, SMU doubled its lead.
In the third period, the Cardinals added a third goal to close out the scoring.
Senior
Lauren Smith (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) led the Pointers with four shots on goal. UWSP forced SMU goaltender Ary Ziakas to make 24 saves.
The Pointers return to action the first weekend in January at home as host of the Crossover Tournament. UWSP plays Saint Mary's on January 4 at 5:00 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
