Heitsman’s Third-Period Goal Gives UWSP Women’s Hockey a 1-1 Tie

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (5-6-2) got a third-period goal and earned a 1-1 tie with visiting Saint Mary's (4-6-1) to open the 2019 Crossover Tournament.
 
Freshman Dani Heitsman (Janesville, Wis./Rock County Fury) netted her team-lead tying fifth goal of the season at the 5:45 mark of the third period.  Junior Alex Grubbs (Minong, Wis./Spooner) picked up her third assist of the season on the goal as UWSP tied the game at 1-1.
 
The Cardinals opened the scoring in the first period with a goal at the 16:04 mark and SMU led until Heitsman's goal in the third.
 
UWSP senior goaltender Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) recorded 30 saves in the tie.  She made four saves in overtime to preserve the tie.
 
The Pointers continue action in the 2019 Crossover Tournament on Saturday (Jan. 5) against the College of Saint Benedict.  The Puck drops at Ice Hawks Arena at 2:30 p.m.
