Pointers Rally For Road Win Behind Career Bests By Fredrickson

HOLLAND, Mich. – The No. 6 ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (5-1) faced its first extended adversity of the year, but rallied for an 82-74 win at Hope College (4-3) on Saturday night.

Senior Drew Fredrickson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) poured in a career-high 20 points and made six three-pointers, also a career-best, in the win.  Five of his three-pointers came in the second half as UWSP rallied from an 11-point deficit.

Fellow senior Canon O'Heron (Bangor, Wis./Bangor) scored a game-high 23 points and added nine rebounds.  Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) contributed 19 points and also had nine boards.

Fredrickson opened the game with a three just 18 seconds into the game.  Nate Dodge (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) made six of the next eight UWSP points as the Pointers extended the lead to five at 11-6.  Midway through the half, O'Heron dominated the inside with three-straight made buckets as UWSP remained in front.

The Pointers went back to O'Heron with 6:26 left in the half for a 26-22 lead.  At the 4:10 mark, Aaron Knez (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) made a layup, but UWSP was held scoreless the remainder of the half as Hope went ahead 40-32 at the break.

The Flying Dutchmen scored five early points to put UWSP behind by 11 before Fredrickson reignited.  His three at the 18:29 mark sparked an 8-2 run as the Pointers quickly got within five.  Bublitz and Fredrickson each hit a three as UWSP got within a possession near the midpoint of the second half.

Fredrickson nailed another three at 9:23 to give the Pointers their first lead of the second half at 61-60.  He hit consecutive threes as UWSP went up 71-67.  In the final minute of play, Dodge drilled a three to push the lead to seven  at 78-71 as the Pointers closed out the win.

UWSP returns home to face Ripon College on Wednesday (Dec. 12).  Tip-off at Quandt Fieldhouse is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
