Pointers Shut Out Yellowjackets in Conference Action

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The No. 1 ranked UW-Stevens Point Men's Hockey team (10-0-2, 2-0-0) shut out UW-Superior (3-7-2, 0-1-1), 4-0, on Saturday in conference play.
 
Senior B.J. Duffin (Red Deer, Alta.) gave the Pointers an early 1-0 lead, scoring 2:37 into the first period. Austin Kelly (Toledo, Ohio) added the assist.
 
The Pointers doubled their lead at the 2:44 mark of the second period when junior Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis.) put in a loose puck in front of the net with Colin Raver (Bartlett, Ill.) getting the assist.
 
McElhenie returned the favor to Raver, setting him up at the 14:22 mark of the second for a power-play goal.
 
UWSP added another power-play goal at 5:43 of the third period to make it 4-0. Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn.) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season, with his brother TJ Roo (Champlin, Minn.) getting the assist.
 
Sophomore goaltender Connor Ryckman (Minesing, Ont.) improved to 10-0-1 on the year, making 24 saves. UW-Superior goaltender A.J. Smith made 26 saves in the game.
 
The Pointers head to Concordia (Wis.) on Friday (Dec. 7) and Lake Forest (Ill.) on Saturday (Dec. 8). Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. both nights.
