STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (2-2-0) saw a one-goal lead evaporate as visiting St. Thomas (4-0-0) scored four times in the second period in a 6-2 victory at Ice Hawks Arena on Saturday.
Senior
Lauren Smith (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) gave the Pointers a 1-0 lead with a power-play tally midway through the first period.
Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, Wis./Madison Capitols) picked up an assist on the play after digging the puck out of the corner.
St. Thomas scored five-straight goals with four coming in the second period. The Tommies took a 5-1 lead just 1:03 into the third period.
At the 6:06 mark of the third period, freshman
Nicole Neuberger (Orono, Minn./Orono) netted her first career goal.
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, Wis./Madison Capitols) added an assist, her team-leading fifth point of the year. Lemirande has recorded a point in all four games on the season.
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) made 23 saves for the Pointers in two-plus periods. Freshman
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) saw her first action as a Pointer in the third period and made 11 saves. UST goaltenders made 15 saves in the game.
The Pointers remain at home next Saturday (Nov. 10) to open conference play against UW-River Falls. The puck drops at 2:30 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
