STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (2-3-0, 0-1-0) dropped its conference opener to visiting No. 7 UW-River Falls (4-1-0, 1-0-0) on Saturday, 5-0.
The Falcons got on the board early with a goal just 1:26 into the game. The Pointers found themselves in a 2-0 hole at the 5:13 mark, but held the deficit at two goals the remainder of the period.
In the second period, UWRF was awarded a five minute power play and the Falcons converted twice to double their lead to 4-0.
UWSP freshman goaltender
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) entered in the third period and turned aside eight shots until the final minute of play when UWRF made it 5-0.
Senior goaltender
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) made 19 saves over the first two periods. The Pointers had 11 shots in the game, led by senior captain
Lauren Smith's (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) three.
The Pointers head out on a four-game road trip beginning with a pair of matchups against UW-Superior next weekend. Puck drop in Superior is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 16) and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 17).
