FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (5-3-1) completed its four-game road swing with a 2-1 victory at Marian (0-7-2) on Wednesday. The Pointers went 3-0-1 on the four game road swing and a 5-0-1 on the road this season. UWSP has now won all 17 match-ups with the Sabres in the series history.
Marian opened the scoring in the first period with a goal at 8:35 to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Pointers struck back in the second period. Freshman
Dani Heitsman (Janesville, Wis./Rock County Fury) netted her fourth of the year at 9:37 to tie the game at 1-1.
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, Wis./Madison Capitols) and
Lauren Smith (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) assisted on the power-play goal.
Later in the second, UWSP tallied another power-play goal. This time it was Lemirande with the goal with assists from Smith and
Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, Wis./Madison Capitols). The goal was Lemirande's 15th career game-winner, tying her for second in school history in the category.
Senior
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) made 15 saves in the win. MU goaltender Lindsay Lewison stopped 31 UWSP shots.
The Pointers and Sabres square off again next Tuesday (Dec. 4) at Ice Hawks Arena. Start time is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Stevens Point.
