Women’s Basketball Makes Valiant Fourth Quarter Rally at Lakeland

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (2-1) out-scored Lakeland 24-12 in the fourth quarter, but the comeback attempt came up short as the Pointers fell, 68-65, to the Muskies (3-0).

Freshman Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis. /Tri-County) recorded her second-straight double-double for UWSP.  She scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) also scored in double figures with 14 points.  She and Baehman both went 4-for-4 from the free throw line and hit two three-pointers.

Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) added 10 points.  She tied Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) with a team-high four assists.

The Pointers got off to a sluggish start as Greenheck hit both free throws at 3:34 of the first quarter with UWSP already trailing 14-0.  Greenheck buried a three a minute later for the first UWSP field goal and the deficit stood at 26-10 after one.

Baehman and Brooke Geier (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) each hit a three as UWSP cut the deficit to seven at 27-20 midway through the second.  The Pointers again went cold from the floor following an Erin Nyhus (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) three with 3:47 remaining in the half.

Baehman scored seven-straight for the Pointers midway through the third period, but the deficit remained in double figures.

Cerrato had a personal 9-0 run to begin the fourth quarter as UWSP got within six.  With three minutes remaining, Cerrato drilled another three as UWSP led 61-59.  The Muskies hit 7-of-8 free throws late to hang on for the win.
