DE PERE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (4-3-1) scored three times in the opening period and held on for a 3-2 win at St. Norbert (3-4-1) on Tuesday.
The Green Knights got on the board just 1:19 into the game to put the Pointers behind early.
Senior
Lauren Smith (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) tied the game at 7:35 of the first with fellow senior
Allison Karrmann (Cannon Falls, Minn./Emerson Prep) picking up the assist.
Freshman
Dani Heitsman (Janesville, Wis./Rock County Fury) put the Pointers ahead at 12:18 of the first, an unassisted tally.
Late in the opening stanza,
Alana Achterkirch (St. Michael, Minn./North Wright County) scored her first of the year with just 18 ticks left in the period.
Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) assisted on the eventual game-winner.
Neither team scored in the second period. Late in the third, SNC got a goal back, but UWSP freshman goaltender
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) held the fort for the win.
Schultz made 19 saves in the victory, the first of her career. SNC goaltenders stopped 23 UWSP shots.
The Pointers return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 28 with another road game at Marian. The puck drops at 8:00 p.m.
