STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (2-1-0) suffered a 2-1 loss in the home opener on Friday night to visiting St. Thomas (3-0-0).
UWSP fell behind at the 17:11 mark of the first period as the visiting Tommies took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Midway through the second period, sophomore
Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) evened the game at 1-1 with her first goal of the season.
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, Wis./Madison Capitols) picked up her fourth point of the season with an assist on the tying goal.
In the final minute of the second period, UST scored to take a 2-1 lead.
UWSP senior goaltender
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) made 11 of her 28 saves in the third period to give the Pointers a chance for the tying goal.
The Pointers look to split the series with a rematch against St. Thomas on Saturday (Nov. 3) at Ice Hawks Arena. The puck drops at 2:30 p.m.
