Grubbs Scores Twice in Draw with UW-Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Junior Alex Grubbs (Minong, Wis./Spooner) led the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (3-3-1, 1-1-1) with two goals in a 3-3 draw with UW-Superior (2-5-1, 0-2-1).

Grubbs struck first at the 15:02 mark of the first period.  Her goal came off a feed from Anna Cheney (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale).  The Yellowjackets scored shortly after at the 17:52 mark to send the game to intermission tied 1-1.

Freshman Sophie Regovic (Naperville, Ill./Chicago Mission) put the Pointers ahead, 2-1, at the 5:45 mark of the second.  Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, Wis./Madison Capitols) dished out the assist on the Regovic goal.

The Yellowjackets responded at the 18:55 mark with a power-play tally to tie the game again at 2-2.

In the closing seconds of the second period, Grubbs put home an unassisted shorthanded goal at the 19:31 mark for a 3-2 advantage heading to the third.  The goal was her team-leading fifth of the year.

In the third period, the Yellowjackets's Tessa Jorde scored to even the game at 3-3.

The game went into overtime with both team recording shots, but neither team capitalizing.
