SUPERIOR, Wis. – Junior
Alex Grubbs (Minong, Wis./Spooner) led the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (3-3-1, 1-1-1) with two goals in a 3-3 draw with UW-Superior (2-5-1, 0-2-1).
Grubbs struck first at the 15:02 mark of the first period. Her goal came off a feed from
Anna Cheney (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale). The Yellowjackets scored shortly after at the 17:52 mark to send the game to intermission tied 1-1.
Freshman
Sophie Regovic (Naperville, Ill./Chicago Mission) put the Pointers ahead, 2-1, at the 5:45 mark of the second.
Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, Wis./Madison Capitols) dished out the assist on the Regovic goal.
The Yellowjackets responded at the 18:55 mark with a power-play tally to tie the game again at 2-2.
In the closing seconds of the second period, Grubbs put home an unassisted shorthanded goal at the 19:31 mark for a 3-2 advantage heading to the third. The goal was her team-leading fifth of the year.
In the third period, the Yellowjackets's Tessa Jorde scored to even the game at 3-3.
The game went into overtime with both team recording shots, but neither team capitalizing.
Senior goaltender
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) saved 48 shots for the Pointers while McKenzie Whalen of UW-Superior saved 24.
Up next, the Pointers travel to De Pere, Wis. for match-up with St. Norbert College on Nov. 20. The puck drops at 7:00 P.M.
