Balanced Offensive Attack Powers Pointers to Victory in Home Opener

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) led a trio of Pointers in double figures as the No. 12 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (2-0) took care of visiting Buena Vista (1-1) in the home opener, 87-72.

Bublitz had a team-high 19 points for UWSP and pulled down a team-best six rebounds.  Drew Fredrickson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) and Nate Dodge (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) added double-digits with 18 and 17, respectively.  The trio accounted for six of UWSP's seven three-pointers in the game.

The Pointers hit their first eight shots from the field, including triples from Bublitz, Dodge and Fredrickson to open a 19-6 lead less than four minutes into the game.  Koko Songolo (Madison, Wis./Memorial) hit back-to-back buckets midway through the half to put the lead at 27-13.

Dodge chipped in five points down the stretch in the first half, including a successful completion of an and-one.  Matt Koerner (West Bend, Wis./West) drilled a three to close the half with UWSP in front, 44-28.

Bublitz opened the second half with five of UWSP's first seven points.  Fredrickson hit a three and Dodge completed another and-one for a 64-48 lead in the middle of the half.

Bublitz and Dodge combined for 10-straight points to push the lead to 78-58 with just under six minutes to go.  Fredrickson sunk eight-straight from the free throw line as UWSP was not challenged down the stretch.

The Pointers remain at home next Saturday (Nov. 24) with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off against Edgewood.
