STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 12 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (3-0) jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back in a 73-54 victory over visiting Edgewood (0-3) in non-conference action on Saturday.
Senior
Brett Tauber (Madison, Wis./Memorial) recorded a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds and he added 10 points. Fellow senior
Canon O'Heron (Bangor, Wis./Bangor) scored a team-high 15 points for UWSP.
Drew Fredrickson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) and
Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) also poured in double digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Both had a pair of steals and the duo combined for five assists.
A Bublitz three opened the scoring and set off a 10-0 run by UWSP to begin the game. O'Heron and Tauber combined for the 11 points for UWSP.
Matt Koerner (West Bend, Wis./West) drained a couple of three-pointers as UWSP went ahead 25-13.
Bublitz rattled off five-straight points as the Pointers doubled up the Eagles, 30-15. In the final minute of the half, Fredrickson buried a three as UWSP went into halftime up, 39-25.
Nate Dodge (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) and
Mark Nelson (Madison, Wis./Monona Grove) each hit from behind the arc early in the second half as the Pointers pushed the lead to 20. O'Heron hit on back-to-back offensive trips later in the half as the lead grew to 23 and UWSP won going away.
The Pointers travel to Illinois on Wednesday (Nov. 28) to face Augustana in a matchup of 2017 NCAA Tournament participants. Tip-off in Rock Island is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
