NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (2-0-0) rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 5-2 win at St. Olaf (0-2-0) on Saturday to complete the series sweep.
The Oles opened the scoring at the 6:21 mark of the first period to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. St. Olaf pushed the lead to 2-0 at the 12:34 mark in period number two.
Moments later, UWSP took advantage of its second power play of the game.
Lauren Smith (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) netted her first of the season with assists from freshmen
Sophie Regovic (Naperville, Ill./Chicago Mission) and
Dani Heitsman (Janesville, Wis./Rock County Fury) to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Later in the period,
Alex Grubbs (Minong, Wis./Spooner) added a second power-play tally to tie the game at 2-2.
Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, Minn./Waconia) picked up an assist on the goal.
Early in the third period,
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, Wis./Madison Capitols) broke the tie with Grubbs and Smith snagging assists for a 3-2 lead. Grubbs added her second goal of the game at the 4:23 mark, an unassisted goal, to push the advantage to 4-2.
Emma Paravola (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) scored an empty-netter late in the third period to provide insurance in the win.
Senior
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) turned aside 22 shots from the Oles for her second victory of the year. St. Olaf's Kaitlyn Pellicci made 32 saves.
The Pointers open the home slate on Friday (Nov. 2) at 7:00 p.m. versus St. Thomas.
