UWSP Volleyball Falls in Straight Set Versus Hope

ELMHURST, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (16-13) saw a tough weekend end with a straight-sets loss to No. 13 Hope College (22-5) on Saturday at the Elmhurst College Invitational.

Junior April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) led all players with 13 kills.  She added a team-high eight digs.

Freshman Ciara Gilbertson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) led the Pointers with 17 assists.  Ellie Adams (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) contributed 15 assists for UWSP.

Kills by Megan Lau (Potter, Wis./Hilbert) and Madyson Schroeder (Green Bay, Wis./Bayport) gave the Pointers an early 2-0 lead, but a 16-5 run by Hope put UWSP in a 16-7 hole. A pair of kills by Tara Emme (St. Nazianz, Wis./Valders) in a 9-1 run brought UWSP within 18-17.  The Flying Dutch scored seven of the last nine points to take the first set.

Gehl had a pair of early kills to put UWSP ahead 4-2 in the second set.  Following an Emme Kill, UWSP led 10-8, but Hope used a trio of four-point runs to pull away for a two-set lead.

Emme and Gehl combined for three kills, but UWSP trailed 10-3 in the third.  Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) and Schroeder served up aces and added five kills, but the Flying Dutch took the set and the match.

UWSP returns home to close out the regular season with three-straight matches beginning on Wednesday (Oct. 24) at 7:00 p.m. against UW-River Falls.
