UWSP Volleyball Throws Block Party in Sweep of UWRF

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (17-13, 4-2) had a season-high 14 blocks in a straight-set win over UW-River Falls (13-19, 0-6) on Wednesday night.
 
Junior April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) and sophomore Ellie Adams (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) each had a double-double in the victory.  Gehl led all players with 13 kills.  Adams had 34 assists with both Gehl and Adams contributing 11 digs.
 
Freshman Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) had a team-high 13 digs for the Pointers.  Fellow freshman Maddie Lawson (West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale) had eight blocks.
 
Gehl powered her second kill of the match to spark a 4-0 run as UWSP took a 5-2 lead in the first set.  A trio of kills by Rachel Hein (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) helped UWSP to a eight-point run and a 15-5 advantage.  Tara Emme (St. Nazianz, Wis./Valders) had three late kills as UWSP closed out the 25-16 win with six of the final eight points.
 
Hailey Jarr (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) opened the second set with a kill as UWSP moved in front 7-2 early.  Later, Gehl had a pair of kills as part of a five-point burst to put the Pointers in front 22-14 en route to a 25-18 set win.
 
Gehl buried three early kills as UWSP opened the third set with a 5-1 lead.  Later, Gehl sandwiched four-straight blocks with kills for a 21-9 advantage.  Taylor Keenan (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville Area) added two kills as the Pointers closed out a 25-12 set win to sweep the match.
 
The Pointers close out conference play on Friday (Oct. 26) with a 7:00 p.m. home match against UW-La Crosse.
