Schlossmacher Scores Twice to Lead UWSP to Win at Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Senior Maddie Schlossmacher (Roseville, MN/Roseville) scored two goals, giving the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (10-5-1) a lead with each tally, in a 3-1 win over Marian (4-11-0) in Fond du Lac on Wednesday night.

It was Schlossmacher's first career multi-goal game for the Pointers.  She broke a scoreless tie at the 13:47 mark of the second period to give UWSP a 1-0 lead on an assist from fellow senior Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame).

The Sabres evened the score at 1-1 at the 16:50 mark of the second, ending a 228:19 shutout streak by the Pointers.

Early in the third period, Schlossmacher netted her second of the game, the eventual game-winner, to put UWSP ahead 2-1.  Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Madison Capitols) recorded her team-best 10th assist of the year on the play with Shannon Motzko (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury) adding a helper.

Freshman Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, WI/Madison Capitols) added an insurance goal at the 15:25 mark, her third goal in as many games for the Pointers.  Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, MN/Hutchinson) and Maddie Monroe (Aurora, IL/Batavia) grabbed assists on the goal.

Junior Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) made 22 saves for UWSP.  Marian keeper Lindsay Lewison turned aside 35 UWSP shots.

The Pointers return home for a weekend series against league foe UW-River Falls.  The puck drops at Ice Hawks Arena on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
