Pointers Complete Unblemished Week with 5-0 Victory Over Spartans

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (9-5-1) completed an undefeated week with a 5-0 win over first-year program Aurora (2-12-1) on Saturday.  Senior defender Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) led the Pointers with a three-point game, with two goals and an assist.

Punnett put the Pointers on the board first just 4:45 into the first period.  She scored her goal off a feed from Maddie Schlossmacher (Roseville, MN/Roseville)

Later in the first period, Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, MN/Hutchinson) found the back of the net.  Berthiaume's goal was dished out from forward Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) expanding the lead to 2-0.

Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Madison Capitols) continued to extend the Pointers' lead as she found the back of the net 13:51 into the second period.  Lemirande's goal included an assist from Punnett.

Punnett later put another goal past the Spartans' goaltender at 1:18 of the third period. The senior defender's goal included a feed from Maddie Monroe (Aurora, IL/Batavia)

Freshman forward Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, WI/Madison Capitols) sealed the deal for the Pointers as she scored at 7:36 to close out the scoring.   Biagini was credited with an assist on the play.

Sophomore goaltender Marit Larson (Oakdale, MN/North St. Paul) stopped all seven shots by the Spartans as she recorded her first career shutout.

The Pointers travel to Fond Du Lac, Wis., to take on Marian University on Wednesday (Jan. 17) at 8:00 p.m.  They return for a two-game home stand to host WIAC foes UW-River Falls next Friday and Saturday (Jan. 19 and 20) at Ice Hawks Arena.
