Pointers Tally Seven Goals in Win over Aurora

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-5-1) got goals from six different scorers in a 7-0 win over visiting first-year program Aurora (2-11-1) on Friday night at Ice Hawks Arena.
 
Junior Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, MN/Waconia) opened the scoring in the first period at the 5:50, her first of two tallies in the game.  Later in the first period, freshman Shannon Motzko (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury) netted her first career goal to give UWSP a 2-0 lead.
 
In the opening minute of the second period, Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, WI/Madison Capitols) scored on assists from Maddie Monroe (Aurora, IL/Batavia) and Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater)Lauren Smith (Antigo, WI/Antigo) extended the lead with a goal at the 5:16 mark of the second.  Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Madison Capitols) got her second assist of the game and Lilly Johnson (Vail, CO/Battle Mountain) got her first career point with an assist.
 
Senior Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) rounded out the scoring in the second period in the final minute of the stanza with Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake) assisting on the play.
 
Freshman Alana Achterkirch (St. Michael, MN/North Wright County) netted her first career goal in the third period, an unassisted tally at 3:17.  Kratch scored her second of the contest on the power play at 9:16 of the third with Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, MN/Hutchinson) picking up an assist.
 
Senior goaltender Lisa Fowle (Wausau, WI/Wausau West) recorded seven saves for the shutout win.
 
The Pointers and Spartans conclude the series on Saturday (Jan. 13) at 2:30 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
