Soccer Eases Past Crown with Big Second Half

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point soccer team (2-1-0) got goals from eight different players and did not allow a shot against in a 10-0 win over visiting Crown College on Tuesday.
 
Freshman Francesca Hamilton (Milwaukee, Wis./St. Thomas More) and sophomore Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) each scored two goals in the match.  Junior Olivia Bohnert (Oshkosh, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) had three assists.
 
Hamilton got the scoring starting in the 26th minute.  Her first career goals was UWSP's lone tally of the first half.  Lexi Ahrens (Appleton, Wis./Appleton East) added on the first half goal.
 
Nora Hargett (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) got the second half scoring started with her first career goal in the 47th minute.  Hamilton added an assist on the goal.  Just over a minute later, Hamilton found the back of the net on an unassisted tally.
 
Sophomore Kassidy Spees (Nekoosa, Wis./) got on the scoring sheet with an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute.  In the 68th minute, Gracie Wendels (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Assumption) added to her team-high by scoring her third of the year on an assist from Bohnert.  The scoring continued with Kayla Huber (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) netting a goal in the 73rd minute.
 
Hardyman got on the board in the 75th minute, her second of the year.  Bohnert added her second helper of the match on a nice cross into the box.  Hardyman added another goal in the 79th minute to tie Wendels for the team-high on the season.
 
Freshmen Meaghan Ambelang (Stuttgart, Germany/) and Kenadie Cain (Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's) closed out the scoring.  Ambelang scored her second of the year in the 88th minute off a corner kick from Huber.  Cain scored in the final minute on a tap in from close range.
 
UWSP outshot Crown, 58-0, in the match.  All three goalkeepers played for the Pointers, but none were tested with a shot.
 
The Pointers travel to Macalaster on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. match in Minnesota.  UWSP returns home on Sunday (Sept. 10) for a 1:00 p.m. kick off against Illinois Institute of Technology.
