Three First-Half Goals Stand Up as UWSP Wins at NCC

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (6-2-0) made three first-half goals stand up in a 3-2 road win at North Central (3-3-1) on Saturday.
 
Freshman Francesca Hamilton (Milwaukee, Wis./St. Thomas More) got the Pointers on the board in the 15th minute.  Sophomore Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) picked up an assist on the play.
 
Hamilton struck again in the 17th minute with her team-best eighth tally of the year.  She was credited with an unassisted goal.
 
The Pointers extended the lead to 3-0 in the 31st minute as fellow freshman Meaghan Ambelang (Stuttgart, Germany/) scored an unassisted goal, her third of year.
 
The Cardinals pulled one back just 15 seconds into the second half.  Then in the 58th minute, NCC scored again to cut the UWSP lead to one and the Pointers held on for the one-goal win.
 
Both teams recorded 11 shots in the match.  Hamilton led the Pointers with three shots, all were on net.
 
Senior goalkeeper Sarah Peplinski (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) made three saves in the win. 
 
UWSP remains on the road with a visit to Carthage on Wednesday (Sept. 27) for a 4:30 match in Kenosha.
