STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (3-2-0) extended its home shutout streak to 270 consecutive minutes to begin the season after a 3-0 win over visiting Illinois Institute of Technology (0-4-0) on Sunday.
Sophomore
Amanda Maestas (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior High) got the Pointers on the board late in the first half. She netted her second of the season on an assist from freshman
Gracie Wendels (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Assumption) as UWSP took a 1-0 lead into the break.
The one-goal advantage held as the teams battled back-and-forth in the second half. Then late in regulation, freshman
Francesca Hamilton (Milwaukee, Wis./St. Thomas More) added some insurance.
Hamilton beat the goalkeeper one-on-one in the box and tapped in her third of the year in the 86th minute on an assist from
Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing).
Hamilton and Hardyman connected again minutes later on a give-and-go to push the advantage to 3-0. With the two goals, Hamilton now leads the Pointers with four goals and 10 points on the season.
Senior goalkeeper
Sarah Peplinski (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) wasn't tested until the second half and she made saves on both IIT shots on goal. It was her third clean sheet of the year, all in home victories.
The Pointers head to Lawrence on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. before returning home next Sunday (Sept. 17) for a 1:00 p.m. matchup against Ripon.
