Track and Field Makes Final Attempt to Qualify for Outdoor Championships

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point track and field team sent a group of athletes to the La Crosse Qualifier on Thursday in a final attempt to earn spots in next week's NCAA Outdoor Championships field.

Results

Jerry Williams (Watertown, WI/Watertown) continued his dominance in the long jump with a first-place distance of 7.16 meters (23' 6").   Williams teamed with Michael Von Schledorn (Lomira, Wis./Lomira), Lee Jepsen (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) and Calden Wojt (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) in the 4x100 meter relay to finish third with a time of 41.65 seconds.  Wojt and Williams also ran in the 200-meter dash with times of 21.23 and 21.91 seconds to place second and tied for sixth, respectively.  Wojt's time is a new school record in the 200-meter dash.

Kevin Pettis (Steuben, WI/Prairie du Chien) placed third in the hammer throw with a distance of 55.85 meters (183' 3").  Michael Pomaville (Dousman, WI/Mukwonago) also finished in third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.79 seconds.

In the men's 400-meter dash, Noah Scheer (Elkhorn, WI/East Troy) came in sixth with a time of 51.53 seconds.

In the women's high jump, Isabella Weekly (Plainfield, WI/Tri County) cleared 1.61 meters (5' 3.25"), good for second place.  Weekly also competed in the long jump, finishing fourth with a distance of 5.42 meters (17' 9.50").

Jacklyn Butler (Oshkosh, WI/West) ran a of time of 1:02.89 in the 400-meter hurdles to place third, just .08 seconds behind the winner.

???????UWSP finished fourth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:51.13.

Hannah Mertens (West Bend, WI/Hartford Union) and Makani Peters (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) finished at 1:00.15 and 1:00.84, respectively, in the 400-meter dash to place sixth and seventh.

Angela Breunig (Watertown, WI/Watertown) tied for eighth in the women's pole vault at a height of 3.31 meters (10' 10.25").

The Pointers will wrap up the season next week with the NCAA Championships in Geneva, Ohio beginning on Thursday (May 25).
