Jacobson Drives in Six as Softball Splits at St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team (9-21) racked up double-digit hits in both games of a non-conference split at St. Norbert (16-14) on Tuesday.  Sophomore Jen Jacobson (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) scored twice and drove in three runs in a game one win, 8-6.  She drove in three more in a 5-4 setback in game two.

Jacobson was one of three Pointers with two hits in each game.  Morgan Johnson (Combined Locks, WI/Kaukauna) had four hits and scored three runs.  Paige Allen (South Elgin, IL/South Elgin) went 4-for-8 with a run batted in and two runs scored.

Alyssa Cooper (Little Suamico, WI/Bay Port) scored three times and added three hits.  Paige Kitzing (Mount Pleasant, WI/J.I. Case), Payton Mix (New London, WI/New London) and Cori Semler (Hartford, WI/Hartford Union) also contributed multiple hits over the twin bill.

Game 1 – UWSP 8, SNC 6

In the second inning, SNC rallied for two runs on three hits to tie the game at 3-3.  The game remained tied until the fifth.

Allen hit a one-out single and came around to score on a double by Jacobson.  Two batters later, Mix singled to push home Jacobson for a two-run lead.

In the sixth, Sydney Opdahl (Greenfield, WI/Whitnall) led off with a single.  Johnson reached on a bunt single and a throwing error on a sac bunt plated a run for UWSP.  Allen singled again to drive in a run and Mix sent another run home with a single.

St. Norbert got on the board in the bottom of the first on an inside-the-park home run.  The Green Knights added a second run in the second inning following a leadoff double to take a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the third, Johnson and Cooper singled back-to-back with one out to put runners at the corners.  Then with two down, Jacobson ripped a double to left-center to tie the game at 2-2.

Katie Uhlenbrauck (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville) doubled to begin the fourth.  She moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kitzing.  An RBI groundout by Semler put the Pointers in front.
