STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point Track and Field team hosted teams from around the country at the Pointer Final Qualifier at the Multi-Activity Center on Saturday, the final indoor track meet before the NCAA
National Championships. No team scores were kept for the meet.
Results
In the shot put,
Brent Reierson (Watertown, WI/Watertown) qualified for the indoor championship meet for the men. He finished runner-up with a distance of 16.38 meters (53' 9").
Logan Heil (Weston, WI/DC Everest) and Reierson finished in the second- and fourth-place with distances of 18.36 meters (60'3") and 17.44 meters (57'2.75") in the weight throw.
In the 200-meter dash, freshman
Calden Wojt (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) finished fifth with a time of 22.31. Wojt also made an appearance in the 4x400-meter relay with teammates
Matt Sosinsky (Princeton, WI/Princeton),
Takuto Kobayashi (Franklin, WI/Franklin) and
Michael Pomaville (Dousman, WI/Mukwonago) as the team placed seventh with a time of 3:23.03.
Matt Stelmasek (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) competed in the 5,000-meter run, completing the race in a time of 15:19.39, good for sixth.
Christian Ferguson (Milwaukee, Wis./SCTE) and
Brayden Bernhagen (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) both placed in the top-10 in the high jump. Ferguson cleared the bar at 1.93 meters (6'4"), good for fifth with Bernhagen also clearing the height, but placing eighth.
Distance runner
Alex Egbert (La Crosse, WI/Aquinas) finished ninth in the one-mile run with a time of 4:22.87.
Nathan Dorn (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) was the sole pointer in the 3,000-meter run, also coming in in ninth-place with a time of 9:00.27.
Freshman
Briana Simonis (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) won the high jump clearing the bar at a height of 1.65 meters (5'5"). Fellow freshman
Shannon Callahan (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community) jumped a height of 1.55 meters (5'1"), good for fifth-place.
The team of
Kathy Derks (Greenville, WI/Hortonville),
Leah Trempe (Combined Locks, WI/Kimberly),
Sarah Vils (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee) and
Hannah Mertens (West Bend, WI/Hartford Union) placed second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:56.27.
In the women's 60-meter dash Abigail Clement finished in third-place with a time of 7.80, just .006 seconds behind second.
Angela Breunig (Watertown, WI/Watertown) finished in fourth-place in the pole vault. Breunig cleared the bar at a height of 3.51 meters (11'6.25").
Isabella Weekly (Plainfield, WI/Tri County) finished in fourth-place in the long jump with a distance of 5.35 meters (17'6.75"). Teammate
Jamie Schmitz (Cashton, Wis./Cashton) jumped a distance of 5.07 meters (16'7.75") to finish eighth.
Anna Hogan (Omro, WI/Omro) placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.72 (35'2").
Jacklyn Butler (Oshkosh, WI/West) finished in seventh-place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.28 seconds.
Bailey Wolf (Oconto Falls, Wis./Oconto Falls) finished in eighth-place in the one-mile run with a time of 5:22.10
Karen Wethal (Evansville, WI/Evansville) finished with a distance of 12.54 meters (41'1.75") to place ninth in the shot put.
The Pointers will send representatives in 15 events to the NCAA National Championships in Naperville, Ill. on March 10 and 11.
