CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team (5-7) suffered a pair of losses on the third day of the PFX Games on Saturday. The Pointers fell to Elmhurst in the first game of the day, 3-0. In game two, UWSP suffered a run-rule loss, 16-2, to St. Thomas.
Jen Jacobson (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) recorded a pair of hits to highlight the Pointers' offense. She drove in both runs on the day.
Game 1 – UWSP 0, Elmhurst 3
Paige Allen (South Elgin, IL/South Elgin) doubled to begin UWSP's second inning. Later in the frame,
Katie Uhlenbrauck (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville) singled, but both runners remained stranded.
Elmhurst put up single tallies in the third, fourth and fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Jacobson singled, but the Pointers couldn't generate enough offense to put a run on the board.
Game 2 – UWSP 2, UST 16 (5 inn.)
St. Thomas batted around in the first inning and scored three times. In the bottom of the frame, Jacobson drew a walk, but nothing more for the Pointers.
The Tommies poured it on with five runs in the second and eight more in the third.
In the bottom of the third,
Kirsten Perkinson (Dunlap, IL/Dunlap) registered the Pointers' first hit to begin the frame. She moved to second on a wild pitch.
Alyssa Cooper (Little Suamico, WI/Bay Port) drew a walk and
Payton Mix (New London, WI/New London) reached on an infield single to load the bases. Two batters later, Jacobson singled to left to drive in the first run of the day.
Cooper and
Sydney Opdahl (Greenfield, WI/Whitnall) drew back-to-back walks to begin the bottom of the fifth. After both runners moved up on a passed ball, Jacobson sent a sacrifice fly to center to account for the other UWSP run.
The Pointers return to action on Monday with an 11:30 a.m. ET game against St. Thomas and a 2:00 p.m. ET matchup with Linfield.
