Dominant Fourth Quarter Lifts Women’s Basketball to Big Road Win

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (15-7, 7-4) ended the game on a 25-2 run in a 75-57 road win at No. 24 UW-Whitewater (18-4, 8-3) on Wednesday night.

Senior Autumn Hennes (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) led five UWSP players in double figures as she poured in 16 points.  Junior Taylor Barrett (Monroe, WI/Monroe) added 14 and freshman Carly Cerrato (De Pere, WI/De Pere) tied a season high with 11.  Senior Lauren Anklam (Ringle, WI/D.C. Everest) and junior Lexi Roland (New London, WI/New London) each contributed 10 points.

Barrett got the Pointers on the board a little more than four minutes into the game, but UWSP only trailed 4-2.  Payton Mix (New London, WI/New London) and Roland scored from the field as the Pointers trailed 14-10 after one quarter.

Hennes got on the board in the second minute of the second quarter to end a six-point spurt by UWW.  Mix, Barrett and Cerrato scored on consecutive offensive trips to cut the Warhawks' lead to three points with just over four minutes to play in the half.  Hennes scored in the final minute, but UWSP trailed by four at the half.

The Pointers got five early points from Hennes to take their first lead of the game at 33-32.  But an 8-3 run gave the home standing Warhawks the lead back at four.   Roland and Hennes hit threes as the Pointers responded with a 10-2 spurt with a four-point lead of their own.

Barrett ended an 8-2 run by UWW to open the fourth quarter, sparking the 25-2 run to end the game.  The Pointers converted all 10 free throws over the final 2:31 to push a five-point lead to an 18-point victory.  UWSP's defense did not allow a field goal over the final 7:33 of the game for the win going away.

The Pointers return to Berg Gym on Saturday for Senior Day.  UWSP and UW-Stout will tip off at 3:00 p.m. in the final home regular season game.
