STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Senior
Lauren Anklam (Ringle, WI/D.C. Everest) scored a team-high 16 points and eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau for her career in a Senior Day win, 81-54, over visiting UW-Stout (7-16, 3-9) on Saturday at Berg Gym. Anklam became the 21st Pointer in women's basketball program history to score 1,000 points.
Junior
Taylor Barrett (Monroe, WI/Monroe) and sophomore
Payton Mix (New London, WI/New London) also scored in double figures for UW-Stevens Point (16-7, 8-4) with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Senior
Autumn Hennes (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) scored eight points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
The Pointers opened the game with four-straight points by Hennes and led early 6-2. Mix scored six-straight points as UWSP ended the quarter on an 8-0 run to jump out in front 16-4 after 10 minutes of play.
Anklam scored five-straight points in the middle of the second period as the Pointers pushed the lead to 16. With just over two minutes remaining in the half,
Lexi Roland (New London, WI/New London) hit a jumper to give UWSP its largest lead of the half at 21.
Senior
Sarah Gamillo (Colby, WI/Colby) hit a three pointer three minutes into the third and fellow senior
Taylor Douglas (Brodhead, WI/Brodhead) scored on the next offensive trip as the Pointers doubled up the Blue Devils, 52-26. Then in the final minute of the quarter, Anklam reached her milestone with a jumper and capped her day with a three from the corner.
Freshman
Carly Cerrato (De Pere, WI/De Pere) hit a three midway through the fourth quarter and sophomore
Caitlin Broberg (Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) made a layup with 2:01 remaining for a 28-point lead, the largest of the game.
The Pointers travel to UW-Platteville on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and then close out the regular season next Saturday (Feb. 18) at UW-La Crosse with a 3:00 p.m. tip off.
